Make the right things easy - Issue #15
Dear you,
This one is short, and the message is super simple.
It's Q2, and many people are not as energetic as they were in Q1. Remember how you were exercising, drinking water, and being super productive in January, because - new year, new you? Well, where is that energy now? Is it still hot, or has the fire burned out? If you need fresh inspiration, read this.
Reduce the execution barrier
Being consistent is not that easy, but you can make it a little easier for yourself by reducing the execution barrier. You are more likely to do stuff if it's reachable or if you have a template or system for it. E.g. if you plug your phone at night in the sitting room before you sleep and put a book by your bedside, you are more likely to read the book when you wake up in the morning and less likely to press your phone. You are also more likely to drink water in the morning if it's already by your bedside. You are more likely to be consistent at creating content if you have a content plan and content pillars. The main point of this letter is this - make it easier to do what you want to do. It reduces the barrier to execution.
Set structures
My favourite hack is to set structures that ease your process. For example, whenever I have a bad experience with something, I would create a structure to ensure it doesn’t happen again. I create barriers for that thing. For example, plugging my laptop in the sitting room makes it harder for me to work immediately after I wake up.
Systemise
I also do this when I have a good experience — I replicate it and make it even better. I like to systemise as much as I can. That way, I am not brainstorming every time I have to do something similar. I do that by documenting the process every step of the way. I love when success is replicable. It's how I can share these tips and these letters of things I have learned, what I did, how I did them, etc.
Journal
A good tip - journal through your experiments and activities, spot the patterns, and results. Also think about the how. If you do not like journaling (writing), journal with voice notes. Find your own way. It's your life. Make the things you really want to do easier to do.
Try it this quarter and tell me how it goes.
With Love,
