Dear you,
I thought about buying something today, and instead of just thinking about it, I walked into a showroom, looked at different specs, and asked practical questions about getting it. It seemed super doable. There were more purchasing options than I ever thought of. The same thing happened when I thought about buying a piece of art by a popular global African artist.
Whenever I dream up something or consider doing something, I take a step and reduce my barrier to execution by breaking it down into smaller chunks. I firmly believe that our brains categorise things into two boxes: dreams and realities. When we feel something is out of reach and we want it, we classify it as a dream, and when we think something is easily achievable, we categorise it as a reality because, in our minds, it feels realistic.
For example, if I asked you to write down an amount you think you can earn by next year, how much would you write? If I asked you to add zeros until you are uncomfortable, what amount would that be? Why does it make you uncomfortable? It's probably because you think it's unattainable. Is there someone who is already living that dream? If your dream is someone else's reality, then it means it is more than possible. If you want to earn $1 million a year, that's possible! Some people make that in a week.
So the question becomes - how can I make it a reality? Where do I start? How can I start where I am with what I have to get me closer? What little can I do now to bring me closer to making this dream a reality?
I understand that for many of us, when we dream and get many rejections and disappointments, our brain tells us - this one is a dream. It cannot [or may not] happen. But when something is within reach, especially if it is something we've done before, that becomes our reality. However, I have come to terms with the fact that the life I want is possible. My dream is someone else's reality, and my reality is someone else's dream. By living my dream, I give other people permission to see that the life that they want is possible. The bridge between my dream and reality is my daily action towards the goals I have set by demystifying my dream.
What is your dream? If you could make it into a goal, what would that goal be? How long would it take you to achieve it? What do you need to do/know to bring you a little closer every day? What habits do you need to build to bring you closer to making your dream a reality?
If you want to be a CMO, check the JD of CMOs in companies you want to work for and ask yourself, what do you have now? What do you need to improve on? And start to build towards it.
If you want to buy a house, normalise booking open houses, walking into homes for sale and asking about how it works, and buying options [you might even be shocked that you can already afford one].
If you want to improve your passive income or start investing in assets, stop waiting for huge chunks of money. Start with what you have, gain knowledge, ask questions, join communities. Just start!
If you want anything, go for it.
Stop talking alone, and take a step!
With Love,

This is so true and actionable. I remember writing my financial goal for the year, and I laughed it so hard when I saw what I wrote.
But reading this and knowing, that the difference between my dream and my reality is embedded in those daily baby steps I take is just relieving.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Just start 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽!!
